Greetings from ECPPS Superintendent Elect

Dr. Keith Parker

Greetings ECPPS Staff, Students, Families, and Community,

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Keith Parker, and I am thrilled for the opportunity to serve as your new superintendent. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and becoming a part of the ECPPS family and community.

I was born and raised in Four Oaks, NC. I graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in History Education, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership. I completed an accelerated school leadership program at NC State University, known as the Northeast Leadership Academy (NELA). NELA is intended to prepare school leaders to serve in rural Northeastern North Carolina — a region of our state that is very near and dear to my heart.

My career in education began as a social studies teacher at SouthWest Edgecombe High School in Pinetops, NC. I later had the privilege of serving as the principal of Martin Millennium Academy – a K-8 magnet school, also in Edgecombe County. Among many things, I am proud of the Spanish Dual Language Immersion program that we implemented, and our efforts to close the achievement gap for all students in the school. Most recently, I have served as communications director, secondary school director, and currently as the assistant superintendent for Dare County Schools.

I believe that the purpose of school is to prepare our young people with everything they will need to live a choice-driven life. To fully achieve this, we must work together to think creatively about how our public schools can transform to meet the needs of the twenty-first century learner. High educational outcomes for some students is no longer an option, we must have high educational outcomes for all students.

Over the past several months, I have sought to learn everything I can about ECPPS and Pasquotank County. I am left with the conclusion that we have an amazing community that cares deeply about our public schools. I am grateful for the “harbor of hospitality” welcome that I have received.

In the weeks and months ahead, I am going to do everything I can to meet as many members of our community as possible. I am looking forward to hearing from you about your hopes and dreams for the future of our schools.

In the meantime, I would like to share this short introductory video

Thank you, and take care.

Keith
