Dr. Edmonds has enjoyed a successful career in public education in North Carolina for more than 26 years. She is currently completing her service as the superintendent of the Bertie County Schools System, overseeing the overall success and daily operation of the school system. Prior to serving as superintendent, she served as the Director of Educational Leadership and Development and Director of the NC Principal Fellows Program for the state, located at the University of North Carolina System. Dr. Edmonds began her career as a teacher in Granville County in 1992. She served in that position for nine years and was named Teacher of the Year in 2001. Dr. Edmonds also served as an assistant principal and principal in Granville County Schools until 2006 when she became the Program Director for the North Carolina New Schools Project. She has served as the Instructional Improvement Officer for the Guilford County Schools, and as the District Transformation Coach Team Lead and Halifax Lead for the NC Department of Public Instruction. In that role she assisted in the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs and strategies to improve student achievement in districts needing assistance. Dr. Edmonds led the state district transformation team in Halifax County for 5 years, during which time the number of low performing schools dropped from seven to two, high school proficiency moved from 40% to close to 70%, and the overall high school graduation rate increased 4.7 percent. Dr. Edmonds has served as the director and executive coach for the Northeast Leadership Academy District and School Transformation located at North Carolina State University. In this role, she provided support and coaching for aspiring School Improvement Grant (SGI) leaders.
Dr. Edmonds has an impressive academic background as well, including a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math Education from NC A&T State University in Greensboro. After completing 30 hours in a Master of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics at NC Central University, she obtained her Master of Administration and Supervision Degree at NC State University. In 2017, Dr. Edmonds obtained her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from NC State University in Raleigh.
