ECPPS Prepares for the 2020-2021 School Year

ECPPS Prepares for the 2020-2021 School Year

In preparation for reopening facilities for the 2020-2021 school year, the ECPPS Re-entry Task Force has been working to ensure the district has processes and protocols in place for students and staff to enter schools safely. ECPPS has focused on feedback from parents and staff to provide robust virtual and face-to-face instruction, universal communications, health screenings, digital registrations and much more.

Today Governor Cooper issued a joint statement with the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), the NC State Board of Education (NCSBE) and the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), announcing the state is moving forward with implementing Plan B for reopening. All districts are required to have a Plan C for families who determine remote learning best fits the needs of their child/family. There are factors that will impact the implementation of Plan B such as transportation, building capacity, guidance from state and local health authorities based on COVID-19 trends, and others. "As the Governor shared in his press conference today, we are appreciative of state and federal resources; however, we know there may be potential gaps in funding for our organization as we learn to maneuver through new norms," shared Dr. Denauvo Robinson, Board of Education Chair. "Thanks to the Pasquotank County Board of Commissioners, ECPPS is well positioned to offer remote learning during this time. Superintendent Edmonds, our administrators, educators, and staff have been phenomenal in rising to meet the challenges during this unprecedented time."

To do what is best for ALL students, we need to hear from ALL parents. If parents have not completed the survey for each child, we ask them to take a moment to do so today. Superintendent, Dr. Catherine Edmonds shared, "The voices of our parents and staff are so important at this time. We need to hear from them to ensure our plans meet the needs of all of our children. While there is no perfect plan, ECPPS is dedicated to doing what is best for students, staff, and families." Superintendent Edmonds further shared, "The safety and well-being of our students, staff and families are of utmost importance to the ECPPS Board of Education and administration. We are committed to keeping that at the forefront of all decisions made with regard to opening school for 2020-2021."

For those who have completed the survey, thank you for participating. The survey will be available through Monday, July 20th. The survey may be accessed at PARENT SURVEY.
