Hey!! My Name is Ms. Harris and I am excited to be working with you and your student this year. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. Like any good art teacher, I love to draw and paint and to CREATE!! I would like to share a few details about our curriculum and class expectations.
My philosophy for learning is that each child is unique. One of my jobs as a teacher is to help your child discover his or her individuality and work alongside them to maximize it. I believe in hands-on experiences and learning in creative ways, both individually and in groups. It is my goal to guide my students as a community of learners, who are dedicated to working hard and having fun. My students make progress through honoring an atmosphere of respect, responsibility and safety. I want my students to feel confident that they can apply what they’ve learned in art class to real-life situations, and to develop an appreciation for the arts and to understand the reciprocal impact the arts have on them and they have on the arts!
ART CLASSROOM RULES AND SAFETY: For their safety and to create a positive learning environment, students are expected to follow five rules that we discuss in the beginning of the year and reinforce throughout. They are: Listen to directions, stay in your seat, use art materials with care, respect each other and each other's art, and keep hands, feet, and all objects to yourself. The safe use of materials and tools is very important. Before we use materials we discuss the best and safest way to use them.
Please discuss the importance of following the rules in the art room and using the materials safely with your children.
There’s NO wrong in Art!!
Students’ grades are determined by these four factors: their effort in class, how well they followed the directions, the completion of their work, and their art project. Each of these criterions is worth 25% of their final grade for the quarter.
I believe that for students to be successful at school, we need to work as a team. Please feel free to contact me at any time with concerns or questions about your child’s art education. My hope is that your child will have the absolute best art class experience possible and gain new skills and confidence throughout the semester. If there’s anything specific I can do to help make this happen, please let me know.
