Athletics - Summer Plan Approvals
On June 15th, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) approved to lift the "dead period" to allow high schools to hold individual conditioning in accordance with the "NCHSAA Reopening Sports/Activities: Summer Guidance." Each high school submitted plans to ECPPS district administration for review and approval to begin conditioning in accordance with NCHSAA guidelines. The plans were reviewed by the local health department and approved by ECPPS district administration. The approval is for individual conditioning allowed during Phase I of the "NCHSAA Reopening Sports/Activities: Summer Guidance" only and will not involve other activities.
According to information shared from the NCHSAA, "Schools and coaches are reminded that, per NCHSAA policy, participation in summer activities must not be required and cannot be a prerequisite for "making" a team." ECPPS also emphasizes that the approved summer conditioning activities are completely voluntary and there will be no repercussions for those electing to not participate. Parents are encouraged to make decisions related to these activities that are in the best interest of their child and family.
Each high school will schedule meetings with parents and athletes to share information about required forms and other requirements in order to participate in the summer activities. The meeting information will be shared with parents by each school.
Please refer to the "NCHSAA Reopening Sports/Activities: Summer Guidance" for additional information regarding the guidelines for summer activities.
