Carolyn Walton, IEP Chair
I first began working with exceptional children as a camp counselor for children and adults with intellectual disabilities when I was a teenager. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Special Education and Psychology from Lyndon State College in Vermont in 1992. I have worked as an Inclusion Specialist, resource teacher, educator for incarcerated youth, self-contained teacher for students with emotional disabilities, and IEP Chair. I recently completed my certification as a Behavior Specialist at East Carolina University. My goal as an educator is to provide students with all they need to grow, learn, and reach their full potential.
Kimberly Figgs, 6th Grade EC Teacher
I have a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology and am currently completing my Masters of Arts in Teaching for Special Education. My goal for the 2018-2019 school year is to help my students show growth and reach their highest potential. I enjoy working here with such a great staff!
Arnita Shaw, 6th Grade EC Teacher
I first began working with Exceptional Children at a middle school in Virginia after receiving a degree in special education from Norfolk State University. My passion and love for teaching motivated me to pursue my masters degree in school counseling from Cambridge College. My goal for the 2018-2019 school year is to provide support to my students to help them to successfully meet their academic goals and to become life-long learners in the 21 century by partnering with parents, teachers and others community stakeholders.
Amanda Kozak, 7th Grade EC Teacher
I began working in education after graduating from ECSU in 2009 with a B.S. in Middle Grades Education, math and science. In 2016, I completed the requirements for adding Special Education to my degree and began work as an Exceptional Children’s teacher during the 2016-17 school year. My expectations as an educator are for my students to grow academically and socially each year.

My name is Shawnta Saunders. I am an EC teacher at River Road Middle School. I graduated from Norfolk State University with a Bachelor Degree. Then, I went on to pursue my Master Degree at Cambridge College. My goal for the 2018-2019 school year is for my students to be successful.
